JANUARY & FEBRUARY IN THE GARDEN

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you all had a good Christmas.

despite the snow and cold weather. We are all chomping at the bit to get out there, not long now we hope.

Now is the time to purchase your seed potato's and onion sets. Don't forget will you!

BEDS AND BORDERS

Forget the gym, get yourself out there and rake up any of the last of the leaves, have a weed check and general spruce up. Dig in or top dress around non ericaceous plants with well rotted manure, for fantastic results will follow.

Manure Special Offer 5 bags (yes 5) for only £10.

ROSES

With all your excellent care during the summer you still be enjoying some flowers even now. However as we get into Winter its time to trim by about a 3rd to prevent wind rock and tidy things up, no need to worry about shape or outward buds yet, we will sort this in spring with our main prune.

Whilst at it remove any weeds especially groundsel which will make rust a problem next season, plus burn any fallen leaves with black spot. A good top dressing is recommended too!!

NEW SEASON ROSES NOW ON SALE

HERBACIOUS PERENNIALS

Now is the time to start and cut back and divide all your Herbaceous Perennnials (Cottage Garden Style Plants) that have gotten to big and clumpy!!. Cut back any old stems to ground level, then with a good garden fork lift the plant clump carefully out of the ground. You can then divide it into 2 or even 4 new clumps. By using 2 forks down the middle, gently tease the roots apart to form the new plants. They are now ready to plant or give away, and both will grow away with vigor.
