RICHARD'S
REMINDERS
This
page is packed full of seasonal and topical tips from Derbyshire's
leading Horticulturist.
August in the Garden
Keep
dead heading and feeding those baskets, tubs and bedding plants.
Phostrogen and Miracle Gro are just the job. New Season Pansy can
be added for instant colour.
BEDS AND BORDERS
Keep an
eye out for those pesky aphids and other bugs as summer seems to
have finally arrived and at long last the temperature has soared.
Its a
good time to bark mulch or top up borders to help suppress
weeds and retain moisture.
ROSES
By now you should
be getting some fantastic blooms. Be sure to dead head at least
twice a week, plus a feed with top rose will ensure even more blooms.
Keep an eye out for fungus diseases such as black spot, mildew and
rust after the wet early summer. A good splash of Bio Multi-rose
will sort these out!!
HERBACIOUS
PERENNIALS
Keep these
reliable plants well mulched and watered in the summer heat. As
usual a regular dead head will reap many rewards. Hard prune plants
such as Cranesbills to within an inch of their lives!! Watch them
flourish. Good staking will help taller plants such as Phlox, Asters,
Rudbeckia and Delphiniums survive any winds or sudden summer down
pours.
New range
of perennials now available at only £1.49 each!!
SHRUBS
I always
say summer is ideal to find and fill spots in the garden with hardy
reliable shrubs. As always, New leaf is crammed full of choice,
top quality shrubs from small starter plants right up to mature
specimens. We've all you need to help you with preparation, planting
and maintenance in our vast tool and sundries department. Just come
along and see, it's well worth a visit.

AND SOFT FRUIT
The trend
in growing your own has seen fruit trees sales rocket. Worry not
we've bolstered our stocks to cope and have a fantastic range available
even how.
You should
NOW be harvesting the fruits of your labour. All that manure and
mulching in spring paid off and getting your 5 a day should be no
problem. Start to pick apples daily rather than all at once, ripest
first, and if storing pick slightly under ripe.
Don't
forget to cut down the old stems on your Raspberry plants and to
tie in the strong new shoots for juicy fruits next year.
The new
fruit planting season is almost hear and we have as usual a cracking
selection getting ready for you.
Buy any
fruit trees and receive a free fruit growers handbook.

Again
we have one of the best ranges of ornamental trees in the area right
from 6ft up to 16ft plus! All you can imagine from A-Z, just pop
in and see you won't believe your eyes!!!

to help them thrive. Check that stakes and ties are secure and adjust
accordingly, perhaps add a rabbit guard just in case. Consider additional
trees for screening or adding a much needed focal point in your
garden, our New range is just available.
Our trees
are personally selected by myself to ensure the best quality, size
and shape. We carry out periodic pruning and maintenance of the
trees to guarantee that you have the best start with your tree to
grow into the finest specimen.
Ask our outdoor staff for some expert advise on any aspect of tree
care.
